Waiting List Information

The Housing Authority of Bexar County will open the waiting lists for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher Program and the Public Housing Program.  Applications will be accepted online at http://www.habctx.org beginning Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 8:00 a.m. through Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. (CST).  No applications will be accepted after this registration period.

Online applications will be accepted 24 hours a day during the time the waiting list registration is open.  Applicants may use any device where internet access is available and an email address is highly recommended.  Please remember it is not necessary to go to the Housing Authority to apply, as all applications will be submitted online.

Applicants who are elderly and/or disabled and need assistance in completing an online application may be assisted at the Housing Authority of Bexar County's Central Office located at 1954 E. Houston Street, Suite 104, San Antonio TX  78202 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the above listed application period, excluding weekends and holidays.

For applicants in need of an accommodation separate from the application process described, please call (210) 231-2015.  For individuals in need of assistance due to a hearing impairment, please call Relay Texas at 7-1-1.

  • Residency Preference - must live in, work or be hired to work in Bexar county.
  • Elderly/Disabled Preference – head of household and/or spouse is 62 years of age or older or a person with disabilities.
  • Working Family/Elderly/Disabled Preference – head of household or co-head works at least 20 hours a week, earning at least minimum wage OR head of household and/or spouse is 62 years of age or older or a person with disabilities.
  • Displacement Preferences for applicants who have been a victim of Domestic Violence, Hate Crimes and/or Natural Disaster.

Non-Citizen Rule – Section 214 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1980

Notice to Applicants:  Eligibility for federal housing assistance is limited to U.S. citizens and those who have eligible immigration status.  Financial assistance is contingent upon the submission and verification of citizenship and/or immigrations documents.  For household members who are U.S. citizens, proof of U.S. citizenship is required, for example:  birth certificate, U.S. passport, Social Security Number, Voter registration.  Household members with eligible immigration status must present applicable immigration documents.  For households with member(s) who do not claim eligible status, housing assistance will be pro-rated based on eligible members.  The documents mentioned will be requested at a future date, when determination of eligibility is conducted.
