HABC Receives Target Grant to Support 850 Backpack Goal for 2025 Back-to-School Drive

The Housing Authority of Bexar County (HABC) is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Target Corporation’s Community Engagement Fund (CEF) in support of our 2025 Back-to-School Supply Drive! This generous contribution will directly support our mission to distribute 850 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to families in need on Saturday, August 2, 2025, our largest distribution goal to date.

This year’s drive carries extra meaning as we celebrate 50 years of service to the Bexar County community. To honor this milestone, we set an ambitious goal to nearly double last year’s backpack distribution. With help from partners like Target, we’re confident we can reach that goal and together, make a real difference for hundreds of local students.

The cost of back-to-school shopping can be a significant burden for many families. That’s why HABC is working to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity to start the school year prepared and with the confidence to succeed. Thanks to Target’s support, we are one step closer to achieving that vision.

Target is a recognized leader in corporate social responsibility, having contributed $328 million in total giving, with an impressive $308 million — or 93.9% — directed toward local communities and programs. Target’s $2,500 CEF grant reflects the importance of corporate social responsibility and the power of local partnerships in uplifting families across San Antonio. When organizations, businesses, and neighbors come together, the impact is truly transformational.

Through their Community Engagement Funds (CEF), Target empowers store and distribution center leaders across the country to support meaningful, local efforts.
